PUPIL PARLIAMENT 

Every year pupils in Year 1 to Year 6 elect two children to represent them on our school’s Pupil Parliament.  The Pupil Parliament meets regularly and is led by the Year 6 Members of Parliament. Children are encouraged to raise issues and solve problems that affect their daily experience in school.

So far this year, the Pupil Parliament had talked in general terms about school meals and how they might be improved and relayed the outcome to Ms Fenn. They have discussed issues in general such as resources in school, the use of the field for play, toilets and lunchtime sittings, etc and met with Ms Fenn to work out how these issues might be resolved.

The Pupil Parliament were also very fortunate in being able to meet with our local MP Bim Afolami and raise issues of concern with him. Bim agreed to discuss the concerns children had around the availability of clean toilets in Hitchin and the lack of play equipment for children with disabilities with North Herts Council and to inform us of the outcome.

The members of our Pupil Parliament were very excited to have the opportunity to visit the House of Parliament. We were able to learn a huge amount about the buildings which make up the Palace of Westminster, and also observe democracy in action when watching a House of Commons debate.      

 The Pupil Parliament have also been working on a longer term project – they are currently working on improving the Library environment.

At all times the Members of Pupil Parliament aim to:

• Lead by example showing respect to the whole school community
• Bring ideas and suggestions of all the children in the school
• Solve problems making the school a happy place where we can learn, play with friends and have fun.
